Busturia's location

The Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve covers an area of 220 km2, with 45,000 people living in this area. These inhabitants are distributed over a total of 22 municipalities, although only 11 of which, among them Busturia, are completely within the Urdaibai area proper. The other 11 municipalities only have part of their jurisdiction in the Region.

The northern border of the Biosphere Reserve is formed by the coastline, with Matxitxako Cape and Ogoño Cape protecting the entrance to the estuary which is marked by Izaro Island. The other geographic borders, defined by the Oka River basin, are marked by different altitudes, defining a territory no larger than 12 km. in width and 20 km. in length.
